We were very impressed with the trip
Hi Cheryl,
Thanks for the welcome home message. Bottom line-the trip was out of this world. To show you how good it was, even Joyce loved it.
I would never go back to Cape Town without staying at the Table Bay Hotel. It is the nicest hotel we have ever stayed at.
The location is superb. Right on the waterfront so we spent the evenings wandering around the area. Also, being attached to the mall was a real benefit. The buffet breakfast was mind boggling!! We could have eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner at the same time. There were 8 different kinds of juice, 4 kinds of yoghurt etc. As well you could order made to order eggs.
The two tours that were part of our trip were excellent. On our free day we went on the hop-on hop-off bus and got to see more of the city. We went to the Jewish museum and Holocaust Centre. Quite amazing.
Now for the game reserve and Jackalberry Lodge. Wow! It was beautiful. For some lucky reason we were assigned cottage 1 which is the only 2 bedroom cottage. While we didn’t sleep in the second bedroom we used it as storage. The people at the lodge were amazing. Anything you wanted, they delivered.
The meals were fantastic. For breakfast they custom made anything you wanted. The first morning I had a mushroom, cheese, bacon and sausage omelette and the two other days I had French toast with bacon. They also had each morning home made yoghurt with the greatest muesli I have ever tasted. One night for dinner I had kudu steak. Delicious. The only hard part was running after the kudu to catch it. ;)
Finally - the game drives. Six was the perfect number. Gerhardt was our ranger and Godfrey was our tracker. They were amazing. So knowledgeable. We saw every possible animal including a cheetah. As you know, my goal was to see lions. Well, we saw them on 3 of the 6 drives. On two occasions a huge male lion walked by my side of the Jeep. It was about 2 feet from me. I didn’t know I could hold my breath for such a long time. I remember when we met you told us the difference between a private game reserve and a national park. I now know what you mean. We drove all over the place tracking animals. I couldn’t believe where Gerhardt was driving. On several occasions I thought we would never get out of the bush but we always did.
We were very impressed with the trip. Everything went like clockwork. Thank you so much for helping us plan this trip.
