By Andrew Lee
Flights are not always as comfortable as we'd like them to be. Take care of yourself, and your health, with these helpful airfare fitness and travel tips.
These days, flying can be downright uncomfortable. Unless you’re flying first class with the added leg room and fancy leather chairs, most of us will be flying economy. The small, cramped seats and limited leg room can feel stifling. Despite this, there are ways to combat flight fatigue and stiffness. Fear not travelers, we’ve listed a bunch of insightful tips to help prepare you for your next journey.
According to a recent American Airlines article in the American Way, “Tips for a fit flight”, Herbert DuPont, MD, Director of the Center for Infectious Diseases at The University of Texas School of Public Health and specialist in travel medicine suggested the following tips:
- Dress in comfortable, loose clothing because tight clothing restricts circulation and blood flow.
- Stay hydrated and drink lots of water.
- Wear compression socks for long flights as this prevents blood clotting.
- If you have food allergies, ensure you take medical precaution before flying (e.g. brining an EpiPen, medications etc.).
- If you have any health concerns, contact your doctor before you travel.
- Notify the airline in advance if you require any special services (e.g. wheelchair, oxygen concentrator, etc.)
Follow these tips and you should be well on your way to a fit flight!
