Blankets and Dolls for Christel House School
It’s the time of year when families and friends gather to celebrate the holidays with food and gifts. For Lion World Travel togetherness in the community is what the holidays are all about.
Lion World Travel has partnered with Uthando (which means Love) South Africa, a Fair Trade in Tourism certified non-profit organization. This full circle project that is very close to our CEO Lucille Sive’s heart. In supporting the non-profit eKhaya eKasi Art & Education Center, we are empowering women at the organization to have an opportunity to have a creative outlet and earn money to help support their families and have a better opportunity in life.
Lucille said, “It’s all about a hand up not a handout, and what we can do for people.” We had blankets and dolls made to give to underprivileged children. The dolls and blankets were lovingly made by the women and mothers at eKhaya eKasi (Home in the Hood), a non-profit Art and Education Centre in Khayelitsha.
100 dolls and 140 blankets were handed over to James Fernie from Uthando by Lucille Sive, and in turn Uthando donated the gifts to the children in need at Christel House School. We chose this school as it transforms the lives of impoverished children, breaking the cycle of poverty and building self-sufficient, contributing members of society.
It was pure magic to see how happy the children were to receive their gifts. You can see the smile in their eyes.
We love connecting people and remain incredibly grateful for the opportunity to do so.
Happy Holidays from Lion World Travel.
